Celebrating Biodiversity Through Art
We were delighted to welcome Michelle McMahon, lead artist from Workhouse Union, to our school for a special Biodiversity Workshop, supported by Kilkenny Biodiversity Officer, Bernadette Moloney. This free, one-off event marked National Biodiversity Week and gave students a hands-on, creative way to explore and celebrate our natural world.
Michelle was supported on the day by fellow artist Noortje van Deursen , and together they led an engaging and inspiring workshop that introduced students to the importance of biodiversity, native Irish species, pollinators, and hedgerows through the creative process of block printing.
Students began by creating prints on paper, before moving on to printing their designs onto cotton t-shirts they had brought from home. The session ended with a beautiful, collaborative "We Are Nature" banner, which we are proud to now display in our school.
We were especially thrilled to welcome Rowan, a former pupil of our school, back as part of the team. A heartfelt thank you to Michelle, Noortje and Rowan for delivering such a memorable and meaningful experience for our students.
Go raibh míle maith agaibh!
